Split

The cruise into Split was picturesque, although it was a very busy port. Split is the second largest city in Croatia, it has a magnificent “palace” right on the waterfront. It is not a palace as in the sense of a castle, but a huge complex of many buildings contained within its four walls. It was continually built on and up over hundreds of years and has five levels. It is mostly limestone which I thought was a soft and malleable stone, but apparently this stone is granite like and over many years from constant walking upon it almost looks like marble.

There is a wide promenade in front of the hotels and restaurants known as the catwalk. Our guide tells us that women and sometimes men, like to parade up and down to show off their latest clothes, shoes and boyfriends. The single women often look out for men who have no wedding rings and if any take their fancy they will sit opposite them and pretend to laugh and carry as if they are having a good time in order to attract their attention.

We have free time and we are also eating on shore. We find a place on the waterfront and have a light meal and watch the parade of people going up and down. The meals have been great on board so we are not that hungry and we have been having light meals whenever we are off the ship.

We have another early night and tomorrow we head to Sibenik where we will have a tour to the lakes and waterfalls. The weather has been great sunny and mid 20s
